Dr.Harshad Patankar is an Orthopaedic, Trauma & Joint Replacement Surgeon practising in Pune & has an experience of more than 20 years in the field. He practices at DR.PATANKAR’S ORTHOCARE Clinic in Shukrawar Peth & is attached to Sahyadri Superspeciality Hospital, Pune. He is also a Panel Consultant with Apollo Spectra Hospital, Ruby Hall Clinic, MJM Hospital, Pune.
Dr.Patankar completed his MBBS from Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Medical College, Pune, in 1995. He then persued & completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Orthopaedics from Hardikar Hospital, Pune, in 1998. After getting his D.Ortho he worked in various Municipal Hospitals in Mumbai where he gained ample experience in handling & independently managing a variety of Orthopaedic cases related to Trauma, Fractures, Joint Replacements, Spine surgery, Deformity correction, Arthroscopy, etc.
He then worked with renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon Prof.Dr.N.S.Laud in Mumbai as a Clinical Associate & an Arthroplasty Fellow where again he had an opportunity to see & perform different & some complicated Orthopaedic cases with a special focus on Primary as well as Revision Joint Replacement surgeries of Hip & Knee.
In 2002 he got an opportunity to work with the Ministry of Health in the Sultanate of Oman. He worked there in Rustaq Hospital as a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon for nearly 10 years where he got the opportunity to put to use all the skills he had acquired. He was awarded the “Best Doctor Award” by the Ministry of Health, Oman, in 2010, for his contribution to the people of Oman in the field of Orthopaedics. He was an Honorary Tutor with the Oman Medical College, teaching Orthopaedics to Undergraduate students of the Medical College. Meanwhile he also acquired M.Ch Orthopaedics by the University of Seychelles American Institute of Medicine & passed the MS Orthopaedics exam by USAIM held at Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune.
Apart from the Fellowship in Joint Replacement surgery with Prof.Laud in Mumbai, Dr.Patankar also did a Fellowship in Joint Replacement & Reconstructive surgery & Sports Medicine from Pellenberg University, Leuven in Belgium under the guidance of Prof.Johan Bellemans. He also did a Fellowship in Foot & Ankle Surgery from Korea University Medical Center’s Guro Hospital in Seoul, South Korea under the guidance of Prof.Hak Jun Kim. Dr.Patankar was also a Smith & Nephew Arthroplasty Fellow while doing a Fellowship in Joint Replacement surgery at London Ortho Speciality Hospital, Salem, TN under guidance of Prof.Dr.C.Sugavanam.
Dr.Patankar has done several presentations at National & International conferences. He has an International publication on “Novel Balance Tests For Assessing Functional Ankle Instability: Relationships with BMI and Gender”– Journal of Korean Foot Ankle Society, Vol.16, 2012
He was invited as an International Fellow & Guest Speaker at the 60th Annual Fall Congress of the Korean Orthopaedic Association held at Songdo, Incheon City, South Korea where he presented a paper on the topic of “Foot and Ankle: The Indian Scenario”
He is a member of Indian Orthopaedic Association, Indian Arthroscopy Society, Pune Orthopaedic Society, Indian Medical Association & AO Trauma Foundation
